Types of antioxidants
Date:2019-04-09Views:1119
Three main types of antioxidants have been found in nature. These include phytochemicals, vitamins and enzymes. Most of the most powerful antioxidants are found in plants. This is because plants are exposed to ultraviolet light all day.

Because plants produce a large number of free radicals, they have a natural built-in protection system, which can prevent free radicals from causing cell damage and eventually lead to plant wilting and death. This protection comes from natural antioxidants.

Antioxidant enzymes

Enzymes are antioxidants derived from proteins and minerals in our diet. These enzymes are synthesized in humans, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase and catalase.

In order to provide the best antioxidant activity, antioxidant enzymes need cofactors such as iron, copper, selenium, magnesium and zinc. The quality of protein sources does affect the quality of antioxidant enzymes.

Antioxidant vitamins

The body does not naturally produce antioxidant vitamins, so we must add their dietary sources to the foods we eat every day, whether through food or supplements. Common antioxidant vitamins include vitamins A, C, E, folic acid and beta-carotene.

Vitamin A is particularly important for improving the immune system, eye health, tissue repair and cholesterol levels. Spirulina Hawaii is rich in vitamin A. Vitamin C, which helps protect skin from ultraviolet radiation, promote better iron absorption, provide stronger anti-infective capacity, and help regulate blood cholesterol. Vitamin E is important for maintaining healthy blood vessels, improving skin condition and protecting body membranes. At the same time, folic acid is very important for women of childbearing age, especially in preventing the development of fetal neural tube malformation.

Beta-carotene is a powerful carotenoid (a phytochemical) that is believed to provide the best protection of singlet oxygen and free radicals. This vitamin is most commonly found in orange vegetables such as carrots, pumpkins and sweet potatoes, and dark green vegetables such as spinach, kale and kale.

Coenzyme Q10 (or coenzyme Q10) is a vitamin-like substance produced by human body and has been proved to be an essential component of the basic function of cells. The production of this substance does naturally decrease with age, and its reduction is related to the development of various age-related diseases and diseases.

Antioxidant phytochemicals

Phytochemicals are natural antioxidants used by plants to protect themselves from free radicals. Studies have shown that people who eat phytochemicals also benefit from the antioxidant properties of plants. Phytochemicals are classified into the following categories:

Carotenoids

- Flavonoids

Allyl sulfides

Polyphenols

Most natural whole foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, contain phytochemicals, while processed or refined foods contain little or no phytochemicals.
