Spirulina is a well-known super food. It is a multi-functional food. It can be used in many ways for your meals and snacks. Some of the benefits of adding Spirulina to your diet include its ability to inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells, as well as its ability to improve your academic performance. However, a new study suggests that Spirulina has another positive effect: it can help regulate blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

The study, reported by Nutra Ingredients, found that "in two months, blood sugar and lipid levels improved in type 2 diabetes patients after taking dietary supplements."

The researchers also found that "Spirulina supplements can also reduce serum triglyceride concentration, total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein cholesterol, while increasing high density lipoprotein cholesterol levels." They noticed a "significant decline in the index of muscle regeneration". Apolipoprotein B level decreased significantly, apolipoprotein A1 level increased significantly, leading to a favorable increase in the proportion of A1:B.

As for the details of the study, the researchers wrote: "During the study period, 25 patients in the study group were randomly assigned 2 g Spirulina per day. The control group and the research group had similar medical and nutritional characteristics. "The report continues to conclude that people taking Spirulina supplements showed lower fasting blood sugar levels and lower levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c). A placebo."

Panam Parikh, Department of Food and Nutrition, University of MS, concluded the report by pointing out that "these findings indicate the beneficial effects of Spirulina supplements in controlling blood sugar levels and improving blood lipid levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
