spirulina superfood: how it's made into supplements
Date:2019-05-09Views:1063
The term "superfood" is used to describe certain foods that are rich in phytonutrients. Phytonutrients are special types of nutrients that have incredibly potent disease-fighting properties. Examples of superfoods include blueberries, cranberries, mangos, tomatoes, broccoli, and papaya. But, if there is one superfood that rules them all, it's definitely spirulina.

Spirulina: Superfood Powerhouse

Spirulina is a blue-green algae that grows naturally in pristine freshwater lakes, rivers, and ponds. It is considered the world's most powerful superfood, because it offers one of the highest concentration of carotenoids.

Spirulina also contains a full range of vitamins and minerals, including B-complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, and gamma linoleic acid (an essential fatty acid). Spirulina also contains between 65 and 75% protein, with between 85 and 95% of that protein digestible, making it a superior protein supplement for those looking to effectively remove meat from their diet.

How Are Spirulina Supplements Made?

The MIDORI Spirulina Pacifica® powder and supplements made by Nutrex MIDORI  are unlike any other spirulina supplements available on the market. For starters, ours is the only spirulina cultivated on the Kona coast of Hawaii, in conditions similar to how the algae first grew on the planet, 3,500 million years ago. The Kona coast is the sunniest coastal location in the United States, with moderate year-round temperatures. This allows our spirulina to continuously grow all 12 months of the year. This critical difference results in our spirulina being a superior strain of the algae with the highest concentration of key nutrients and carotenoids.

Nutrex MIDORI s spirulina is harvested and dried using a patented process called Ocean Chill Drying™. The closed system process takes just three to seven seconds, and dries at relatively low heat while using less than one percent oxygen to preserve the phytonutrients. Ocean Chill Drying eliminates the oxidation of carotenes, enzymes, and fatty acids that often occurs in standard dryers. Unlike conventional drying processes, our patented system relies on very cold deep ocean water to provide dehumidification, and is unique to Hawaiian Spirulina®.

Once the drying process is complete, the spirulina is then converted to powder form, and either packaged as a powder supplement for adding into smoothies, drinks, or meals, or it gets cold-compressed into tablets for oral administration. In either case, the spirulina supplement is 100% pure spirulina, and the most potent superfood in the world.
